I've decided to take a break from coding to do something a little more interesting, and do the write up for the event a little earlier than I said I would. I will also be able to clear up the confusion, and explain the delays. Obviously we had initially planned for an Easter event, but we encountered some troubles close to launch and we decided it would be better to postpone the event, and ensure we could provide the best experience possible.
With this in mind, my brain went in to overdrive for the extra things we could add to this event, to keep it special and unique - while bringing back as many of the elements you guys loved from previous events as possible! To be able to achieve this kind of event meant we needed a better server, one that could enable our NPCs and scripts to do much more! I will create another post either later this evening or early tomorrow, outlining the various changes made to the game engine. This has a little wow factor for everyone, even if you don't understand it properly yet, but you'll be able to see from the scripting available during the event how much the scripting engine has changed to allow things to become much more complex. As with all great things in development, and trying to cram all your waking hours to making it work on time I've encountered some glitches along the way some much more severe than others and causing a complete haul of my work load. I was originally also scripting all the event too, so this only pushed us further and further back.
With the horror now said and done
I bring forward M4sterJ0e, who is the first scripter in a new wave of Junior NPC Scripters to make it to the full team. He's managed to help cover my slack, and take the parts assigned to him to even further heights than even I had imaged, making things much more rewarding for the players involved. You really won't know what reward you'll get next! We also have EbonyScythe, one of our latest Game Guides who decided to jump in and help us towards our limited edition sprite recolours which will be available from a tailor within the event map too, we will be adding further variety throughout! Kuru and Laylay have moved the sea, lands and skies to enable a place for us to all get together and enjoy all of the new things. I would just like to add that I'm pretty excited to see all of the users on trial for the NPC team, I know summer is going to be really special this year.
Now, with all things dog, you have legendary. What?! It's true, the King's Treasury is home to the ever illusive unique legendary dogs! M4sterj0e has developed a token gambling system which will offer you the chance to gamble your hard earned credits for that little bit more. You may receive nothing in return at all, or some additional tokens, but don't be put off! This system is home to an adundance of items and also some very special rares. Players will be able to gamble with low, medium or high stakes, but the higher the stakes the higher the rewards. Be warned though, you'll need to be prepared for battle as not all of the rewards will just be handed over to you
Note: The legendary dogs are unique, the Game Server will only generate one of each of them. I know that the gambler has in his possession some very special rares, even some shinies. Are you looking for a red Gyarados? The ultimate Black Charizard? There's one place everyone has a chance to find them and more.
We haven't finished yet! The event map is home to a shopkeeper too, he's very keen to get the King's Sigils back as quickly as possible. He's got all kinds of goods to try and prize those hard earned Crests/Sigils away from you, in favour of some extremely rare specials and also a lot of useful items too. All players will be interested to check out the range of Pokémon he has on offer, especially the Elite Rare/Uncatchable/Shiny categories. If you can't find what you're looking for here, you may need to head over to the King's Tailor. Here you will find 20 limited edition player sprites, which will only be available for purchase during the event! Note: Many of the rares available in gambling can be obtained here, plus many others but excluding the Legendary Dogs of course.
For those looking to earn tokens initially, you will have to earn them gambling or fighting wild Pokémon on the event map. Donator Perks do serve their regular boost to the drop rate of both Crest and Sigil items. The exploring NPCs will be roaming the region before you know it
and they're explained further down in the post.
I'm excited just writing all of this out, so I hope you guys are feeling the same. Everything listed above will be included tonight, roughly between 20:00 and 22:00 Game Server Time today. Due to the overall complexities these systems create within the game, we hope you understand just how critical it's been to ensure that the game engine is able to operate these scripts without room for error at all. We reached one stage of development where the script engine was randomly discarding parts of legitimate scripts causing chaos. It's because of this, I've decided to release this event in stages, or we would have been forced to create further delays. I personally need a break for a couple of days, and will be able hit it pretty hard again towards the end of next week which is where we will see the features outlined below. These features will not have a concrete deadline until one is posted here, so please don't ask. I will elaborate on the features below once they've been finalized.
- We now have the ability for our instanced NPCs to move and have functioning AI, like fixed NPCs except they won't be in the same place for any two players at the same time. There will be hidden NPCs roaming some of the key locations of the region, such as Dissidia, Eternal Heights, Town 5 and Lakeshore. If found these will also provide some random bonus items and/or tokens, and they may also be prepared to fight to hold on to their goods. These NPCs will be able to be found every 4 hours of gameplay once you find one, whether you win/loss or don't battle at all and there will be 2-3 per selected town/city/village with some additional NPCs not included in the notes but hidden in the depths of the region.
- EV Training, time based EV rooms which will offer 2-3 EVs in your chosen stat per kill and super quick battles. You will have to part with your hard earned tokens to be able use these rooms, but they'll serve as a nice alternative to regular EV training and may help you fill up some unexpected slots on the seen part of the Pokedex.
So, wow I think you'll agree. I would like to say a very big thank you before the community does, to the staff which helped make this event possible and are still hard at work to bring it forward! Laylay, M4sterJ0e, Kuru and EbonyScythe
